Were did the term “Cigarette Girl” come from?…

The cigarette girl was a prominent part of  history from the 1920′s thru the 1940′s.  Of course, now we know that cigarettes are bad for you, but back then they were a big part of the night club scene.  Pin up girls kept the soldiers hope alive during the war.  They felt they had someone to come back home to.

The “Waves” and the “Wacs” were a very important part of our history that everyone should know about.  Read about their sacrifices and love for our country that made this country great!

Let’s not forget all those women that stayed at home and worked in the factories to support the war effort.  They made everything the ‘boys’ needed overseas.  Planes, tanks, rifles, ammunition and more.

The music of the 1940′s included;  Dream a Little Dream of MeAccentuate the Positive, April in Paris, Anything You Can DoAs Time Goes By and many more.

Some of the artists of the 40s were Glenn Miller, Ink Spots, Tommy Dorsey, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland and on and on.

Believe it or not but,it is true, rock and roll got its start during the 1940s. The electric guitar was used more and more. Musicians were able to combine bebop jazz, folk, swing, blues and  regular jazz into a different music style that came to be rock and roll.

This particular style became very popular with the black population nationwide, but was very slow to obtain any mainstream success.  Bill Haley & the Comets tried to get rock and roll to take off with their “Rock Around the Clock” tune.  Rock and roll started in earnest with one man.

That man was none other than Elvis Presley and “You Ain’t Nothin But a Hound Dog” set the rock and roll wheels in motion never again to be pushed aside.  He became the most famous artist in American History and also the best-selling recording artist.
